Your Tools

How Play2College Helps You as a Transfer

The transfer portal moves fast. These tools help you stay organized and make the right move.

Track Your Transfer Options

Save every program you're considering. Set stages from "Researching" to "Committed." Keep detailed notes on each school's interest level, scholarship offers, and your impressions from conversations.

See your entire transfer pipeline in one organized view.

Compare New Programs

Rate each potential school on 42 topics — academics, playing time potential, coaching staff, facilities, location, and financial fit. Make your decision based on data, not pressure.

Side-by-side comparisons for your most important factors.

Log Coach Conversations

Transfer recruitment moves fast. Log every coach interaction — calls, texts, visit invitations, scholarship discussions — so you have a complete record when it's time to decide.

Never lose track of who said what during a hectic portal window.

Map Your Options

Visualize all your transfer targets on a map, color-coded by how far along each conversation is. Plan official visit trips and evaluate geographic preferences at a glance.

Geography matters — see it all on one map.

Keep Your Team in the Loop

Invite your parent, guardian, or agent to follow your transfer process. They can see your options, suggest schools, and log contacts — with your approval. Everyone stays aligned.

Collaboration with boundaries — you approve everything.

Manage Transfer Deadlines

Track portal entry windows, visit dates, commitment deadlines, and enrollment dates. Share your calendar so your support team knows what's coming and can help with logistics.

Transfer windows are tight — don't miss a deadline.

The Rules That Now Shape Your Move

Three recent changes reshaped how transfers work. Build your strategy around them before you enter the portal.

One 5-Year Clock — Mind It

Division I now runs on a single age-based window: five seasons of competition within five years. The clock starts at your first full-time college enrollment anywhere — including a JUCO or a school abroad — or the academic year after your 19th birthday, whichever comes first. Transferring doesn't reset it, and traditional redshirts and most waivers are gone.

Roster Limits Make Spots Scarce

Following the House settlement, scholarship caps were replaced by roster limits (for example, 15 in Division I basketball and 105 in football), and within those limits every spot can be funded. The upshot for transfers: open spots are scarcer and more strategic. Target programs that have a roster spot and a real plan for you — not just stated interest.

Ask coaches directly where you fit on the roster and how the spot is funded.

Time the Portal Window

You can be contacted by new schools and compete immediately only if you enter the portal during your sport's designated window and stay academically on track. The windows are tight and sport-specific — football's is January 2-16, men's basketball runs April 7-21, and most spring sports open December 1-15 with a sport-specific window later. Miss it and you wait.

Mark your sport's exact window now and have your decision ready before it opens.
